SUGAR CAN THROW OFF HOMEOSTASIS There are many systems within the human body that help regulate homeostasis. The endocrine system, which releases hormones into the bloodstream, is the primary regulator. The main endocrine glands are the pancreas, adrenal glands, male and female glands, hypothalamus, pituitary glands, and thyroid glands. Each one of these glands secretes hormones into the bloodstream to help regulate late homeostasis. When sugar is ingested, the first gland to feel its impact is the pancreas. After sugar injestion the blood sugar rises, and the pancreas
gland to feel its impact is the pancreas. After sugar injestion the blood sugar rises, and the pancreas creas secretes insulin. The main reason the insulin is secreted is to bring the blood sugar level down, back to homeostasis. When we eat more sugar than our pancreas can handle, the pancreas becomes exhausted and can, in turn, secrete too much insulin or not enough insulin. If the pancreas secretes too much insulin, the blood is not able to get enough sugar. This can lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Consequently, if the pancreas doesn’t secrete enough insulin, our blood will absorb too much sugar, which can lead to hyperglycemia glycemia (high blood sugar) or diabetes. All the glands work together.
When the pancreas is struggling, some of the glands come to its aid, and they start secreting too much or too little of their hormones into the bloodstream in an attempt to regain and maintain homeostasis. This can throw the whole endocrine system into disarray, causing some of the glands to become depleted. This is the reason that so many of us have hypoglycemia, diabetes, thyroid problems, and adrenal exhaustion. It’s also the reason women have menopausal problems. Yes, excess sugar can do all of that.
